9. It's a horrible disease

One of the hardest things about it is the fluctuations in a person's cognitive state. My loved one could be really out of it: acting out and hallucinating one day and then be totally back to his normal self the next morning. The normal times were especially heartbreaking because in those times, he knew something was terribly wrong with him. It's really scary to hear that it's the second most common dementia after Alzheimer's.
