When they released it, it was accompanied by a statement that many of the statements included within it were proven false.

So they released this letter, waited for people to read it and believe it, then proved it false. And there does seem to be evidence to prove it is not from Epstein:

If this happens a few times, people will stop believing anything in the files is true.
