Saturday

that afternoon, as seniors we could leave instead of staying for last period study hall. My brother came flying down the stairs crying that Kennedy had been shot! My first thought was, oh, probably in the arm .....when I realized he'd been shot in the head I picked up the phone to call my mother at work and instead I heard a mechanical voice telling me there was a national emergency to please hang up the phone. it gave me the willies..........then of course the sadness crowded in. then the Oswald shooting. Compared to what has been going on in our country since January, it seems almost quaint that all across the spectrum we grieved.
