(3,090 posts)On Jan 6, when Trump's minions stormed the US Capitol, the Capitol Police were essentially alone. Later, DC Police joined them but by that time the Capitol had been breached and the Capitol Police were in a full on hand-to-hand fight with III Percenters, Proud Boys, and other organized thugs.
The DC National Guard did no respond until late that night after the mob left.
The chain of command for all military -- Active, Reserve, Guard -- goes from the President to the Secty of Defense to the war-fighting commanders. That's it -- a straight line from the President to the combat units. CONGRESS HAS NO CONTROL OVER MILITARY FORCES.
We learned much later that Trump had ordered the SECDEF to not allow the DC Guard to join the fight.
There was video shown all over the news of Pelosi and her staff, sheltered in their bunker, on the phone with VP Pence asking why the Guard had not been deployed. The VP HAS NO COMMAND AUTHORITY. Still, later in the day, Pence convinced the SECDEF to release the Guard from the hold Trump had placed on them.
MAGAts have seized on that video and us it as "proof" that Pelosi had the authority to deploy the Guard. The video shows nothing of the sort -- it shows Pelosi pleading with VP Pence to do something, which he finally did, in contravention of Trump's order.
The goddam "reporter" is lucky Pelosi only shook her finger and told her to shut up. I would have decked her with a punch then stomped on her -- which is about what she deserves.
