Ohio Congressman Michael Rulli (R) is working hard through the shutdown. [View all]

He's rolling up his sleeves and doing the work Ohioans put him in office to do. Mike Rulli is willing to stand up and point out that Columbus Day is all about him.

He is introducing a bill that will punish any city or state that celebrates "Indigenous Day" instead of Columbus Day. The legislation would withhold all federal funding for any municipality or state that shuns Old Christopher, the sailor who got lost on his way to the East Indies and stumbled into a time share vacation in the Bahamas.

I don't really care what they call it and more than a few states and cities already call it Indigenous Day, including Alaska, Delaware, Maine, Vermont, and New Mexico, as well as numerous cities. Some states don't honor it at all. Again, it really shouldn't be an issue either way. However...

Rulli calls his bill "The Italian Heroes And Heritage Act" because Columbus Day was created to celebrate, as he said: "The Italian American Experience", "and in that way unite us all".

Considering Columbus sailed for the Queen of Spain using her ships and money, if he were here today Rulli would demand he be deported back to San Salvador.
