(3,138 posts)41. I worked in a large city hospital for a long time
back in the one-armed bandit days when busloads of seniors would go and gamble. We'd always get a bunch of them coming in a few weeks later with shoulder bursitis.
I've played the slots on Brighton Pier in England - they had the bandits and they had the digital machines. I have NO idea why anyone would bother with the digital machines. The only fun in throwing your money into those things is yanking the handle to make the little icons whirl.
When I was a kid Vegas was a cowtown with a fancy main street - we lived in Boulder City and would go up there to do some shopping. Mom always brought a bag of nickles with her to play the slots at the grocery store (no gambling in BC).

That was my California family's cheap vacation spot in the late 1950's and early 1960's

$50 'resort fee' on top of exorbitant room rates and taxes and parking, $29 buffet is now $90, etc. etc.
