When Trump learned that his SecDef was going to speak to the generals and admirals, Trump had to grab the opportunity to put Hegseth in his place by speaking last. It was a power play. It failed, of course, and the whole event was a waste of time, money and resources because neither Trump nor Hegseth understand how serious the flag officers are. They were probably thinking, “Why am I wasting my time listening to this tripe?” As one participant said, “It could have been an email.”
