for 20 years, I agree with you. Chile had a pretty consistent constitutional democracy for decades before many of its citizens supported the Chilean right wing/CIA orchestrated military coup. Happily they watched or shrugged as thousands of their fellow citizens were tortured, disappeared and murdered.
Or Argentina.
Or Brazil.
Or Guatemala.
Etc.
Were not special in the US. We just have an older Constitution and relative inexperience with authoritarianism.
