(11,350 posts)and that he fired 80 rounds. But the picture of the decorated round shows it in a stripper along with four other rounds. AR style rifles dont use stripper clips. Those are used in bolt action rifles, to feed internal magazines usually with a capacity of five rounds. That means the shooter would have had to reload 15 times to fire 80 rounds. If he had that much time, why not use the last clip, fire 4 more rounds, and use the last one to kill himself?
ARs are semiautomatic, use detachable box magazines, often with a capacity of 20 or more rounds. ARs are chambered in several different calibers, including .308, .300 Blackout, 6,5 Creemore, but most commonly in .223 or 5.56. The rounds in the picture appear to be .30-06 or something else in the .30 caliber range. I may be wrong, but I dont think the AR chambers those rounds.
Which raises a number of question that I havent heard anyone ask.
