The request for money was from a legit source, but the "theme" was always along the same catastrophic lines. When I unsubscribed, I put in a comment about "why would I donate to something the requester has already essentially said is a lost cause? If my $3 can make or break it, then I'll send my money to something else that the organizers have more faith in."
