Some campaigns, when they are in a financial crunch, sell this data to other Democratic groups. In addition, some campaign managers view this data as something they get to use post-campaign.
This information includes not only campaign donations, but also information the campaign collected on the way by other means.
And as people have noted, this information also falls into the hands of fraudsters.
It's not the DNC, but the individual campaign managers.
How you fight this is to create a burner email account (ex: myname+politics@gmail.com) (note the "+" . Use this to create a label and filter out the messages into the digital bit bucket. Then use this to donate directly to only those campaigns you support. Ignore any/all campaign outreach asking for money, as it is not only annoying, but also possibly a fraud.
