Trees can make a big difference in how hot your house gets in the summer - not so much in the winter unless they're evergreens. Some trees have shallow root systems (like some evergreens) or weak cores that can fail in a storm - e.g., silver maples, box elders. Best to have an arborist check them out, see if they're healthy or need pruning. As a general rule I'd rather have them than not.
