TL;DR The Coke corporation can’t unilaterally decide on soda ingredients.

I have a friend in the entertainment industry who’s doing really well. He’s a good guy who deserves every penny of it.

He contacted Coca-Cola to ask about why there is sugar in other countries but corn syrup in America. They mentioned how corn syrup is so much cheaper in the US. They also said that the ingredients used in the soda was a choice of the regional distributors, and not the parent corporation.

He got together with some friends to see about purchasing a distributor. It turns out that they are generally family enterprises that get passed on to other family members. There is a huge line of people who are waiting for a distributor to come up for sale, which will surely trigger a bidding war. Given these issues, he shelved his dream of bringing real sugar Coke to the US mainstream.

Bottom line, the Coke-a-Cola corporation can’t unilaterally decide to use sugar in their sodas. They were either humoring Trump, or it’s just another of his fever dreams…
