(8,068 posts)Paxton was impeached by the Texas House for corruption involving a donor and real estate developer. As an aside, Paxton tried to get his mistress a job with the same developer.
The Senate failed to convict and his wife was prevented from voting on the impeachment; however, she was seated in the Chamber thereby increasing the required number of guilty votes.
The corruption was exposed by members of AG Paxtons staff, who Paxton later fired. They sued for retaliatory firing and prevailed.
DOJ was investigating the corruption.
UPDATE: Trumps DOJ declined to prosecute the case.
The $6.6 million award to Paxtons Staff as result of their whistle blower lawsuit was paid by the State of Texas.
Prior to becoming AG, Paxton was under state indictment for selling securities to investors without disclosing he was profiting from their purchase of those securities.
