Give Republicans, or what they became, credit because they played the long game and never gave up such as with Roe where they fought the battle against it for nearly 50 years.
Sadly, the Left was not vigilant and as the quote goes, "the price of freedom is eternal vigilance". We became complacent and failed in that regard as well as being over confident.
But we were a pretty good nation and beacon to the world while it lasted.
Will the last one out please turn out the lights.
Oops! I'm still here. I think it would take an act of God to turn this mess around and if that were to happen it might cause me to change my status as an atheist and ex-believer. But if there is a god, I wonder why this would be allowed to happen (really nothing compared to the Holocaust, but it's early yet). Perhaps the U.S. is guilty of the sin of national pride in believing we were too good for this to ever happen here--it only happens to other lesser nations.
