Most people who ingest from healthy media streams (and who follow politics) have heard about the multiple incidents of this kind.

But if Fox and their ilk did not cover these stories, my guess is the Trumpists who disdain reality-based news sources might not have been aware of what they were opening themselves up to.

I don't know whether that's accurate, but it's unlikely that Fox spent a lot of time on how Trump harned his rally-goers.

As a side note, I pity the people being tasked by mainstream media to monitor the fringes. I hope they are well paid, get snacks, extra days off, and can work in their jammies whenever they want.
