16. Bush v. Gore was a turning point.

I was horrified as Gore and the Democratic members of Congress were praised for allowing an election to be stolen in plain sight without objection. And I am still sickened when Gore is given as a shining example.

Justice Breyer gave them the playbook when he pointed out in his dissent that SCOTUS had no place in the process. That the only thing the decision to stop the vote count did was render the Florida election incomplete and therefore unlawful and that it was now up to congress to pass judgment on the electors appointed pursuant to it.

Our leaders refused to object and thereby failed to remind the nation that, whatever the outcome, we cannot allow ourselves to be silenced in the face of such a blatant violation of the principle that every vote counts and we must count every vote.

Acquiescing to the treasonous decision gave the far right a massive victory. As a nation we were effectively told, "founding principles be damned, believe what we tell you, not your lying eyes," and far too many of us complied.
