You had owners of national news chains, Hearst newspapers, the family controlling the Chi. Tribune chain and owners of several other major Metro dailies. Radio was all over the country by then and many listened every day after the work day. Father Coughlin the anti-semitic, pro nazi, radio priest had an average audience of 30 million listeners. Add in the tabloids as well.
