Because it's sort of difficult to claim that the religion isn't about money when stuff like this has been going on since it's earliest days:

Kinda tough to make claims about helping the poor when so much of the religion extorts from its membership, including the poor, to spend it on luxury like that instead.

That is all true. The question asked and answered by Calvinist theology was how could one determine who was elected.
