House remains paralyzed with no end in sight for speakership battle after Jordan's exit [View all]
There is still no end in sight for the high-stakes speakership battle after House Republicans ousted Kevin McCarthy more than two weeks ago.
The search is on for a new GOP speaker nominee after Rep. Jim Jordan on Friday became the latest exit from the race, and its already shaping up to be a crowded candidate field.
Frustrations and divisions have only intensified within the conference as Republicans search for a way to resolve the impasse. That, along with the GOPs narrow majority, has made it increasingly unclear whether any candidate will be able to secure the 217 votes needed to win the gavel on the House floor.
The House, meanwhile, remains in a state of paralysis as Republicans struggle to coalesce around a speaker candidate, with the chamber effectively frozen amid the threat of a government shutdown next month and conflict unfolding abroad.

Emmer sends Dear Colleague letter officially announcing Speaker bid
House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) officially announced he has entered the race for Speaker in a Dear Colleague letter to members on Saturday morning.
Our constituents who sent us all to Washington to lead are counting on us to undo the damage Democrats have done and expand our conservative majority. We must come together for the good of the American people and ensure that our best days are ahead, Emmer said in his letter. With that, I humbly ask for your support for Speaker of the House and look forward to discussing this in more detail with you in the coming days as we continue our mission to correct the court of our great nation.
Several GOP members have announced that they are running for the role, while others are spending the weekend making calls about entering the race. Vice Chair Mike Johnson (R-La.) also officially announced he is in the race in a letter to the GOP Saturday morning.
Emmer said he stood with the previous Speaker candidates because they stepped into the void with the intent and vision to lead and unite us.

I have been humbled to have so many Members from across our Conference reach out to encourage me to seek the nomination for Speaker, Johnson said in his letter. Until yesterday, I had never contacted one person about this, and I have never before aspired to the office. However, after much prayer and deliberation, I am stepping forward now.
Johnson said he stayed out of the Speakership race before out of admiration and respect for the rules and the other members involved.
Several GOP members have since announced that they are running for the role, while others are going to spend the weekend making calls about potentially entering the race.
