5. A legal opinion is not the same thing as giving a client representation.

Everyone who went to a US law school knows the same laws and legal precedents. When you ask for a legal opinion on a set of facts, most lawyers will know the federal or state precedents in their areas and give generally similar legal opinions.

Don’t confuse knowledge of the law with zealous representation of the client. A saying that *is* actually widespread is: If the law is on your side, argue the law. If the facts are on your side, argue the facts. If neither are on your side, bang your shoe on the table. That’s a rough approximation of zealous representation, and has nothing whatever to do with a “legal opinion”.
