11. It's going to take a minute to get them working in tandem

I just finished up pharmacology training, and there is so much going on with all of that that an AI assistant in that area could be helpful, particularly in regards to improving patient safety and pinpointing therapeutic doses to the individual. (Yes, there are currently computerized controls in hospitals that monitor drug and dosage safety, but an extra layer could be helpful). Pharmacology is the only thing I actively have anxiety about (read too many stories). Of course, my partner, who is a PharmD, is sitting over there telling me, "Don't worry about. All the nurses just look things up on their phone or call the pharmacy," which does not make me feel any better, lol.

But AI is only as good as what's being put into it. I think it will take a few years.

I used to work a lot with patients with movement disorders. Think diseases like Parkinson's. And over time with experience and seeing many different patients, you get a sixth sense about what will or will not work. Particularly with treatments. Sometimes you can just eyeball a patient, how they're moving, what they're on, and think, "If you give them this, I bet it causes dyskinesia." Experience that's earned outside of book learning.

It'll be interesting to see. Hospitals will always try to cut costs. Fortunately, workers haven't been putting up with it. Kaiser nurses just flayed that company alive last year and earned themselves a 22.5% raise and commitment to hire 2,000 new nurses.

Labor can get it done if they have a mind to.
