OH: Voter turnout remains low for special election, despite constitutional amendment on ballot

NORWOOD, Ohio (WKRC) - Things have been moving smoothly at the Hamilton County Early Voting Center in Norwood as voters cast their ballot for a special August election with one question on the ballot. There's been a steady stream of folks coming through.

For the first time, people are required to have a photo ID to cast a ballot.

With just one question on the ballot, a constitutional amendment that would impact efforts to put abortion rights and marijuana on the November ballot, people would likely expect to see a high turnout.

Alex Linser, Hamilton County Board of Elections Deputy Director, said they are projecting between 30% to 40% turnout based on what they've seen so far.

"It's tough because there's no historical precedent for a statewide August election for a constitutional amendment. But based on the first couple of days of turnout, we're thinking this looks a little bit like a midterm primary election or a city council election," Linser said.
