32. My Mom had cataract surgery after being denied her driver's license renewal.

I took her to the hospital for her surgery, and my sister met us there. She complained the whole time we were in the waiting room. On the way home, she started seeing blades of grass in the ditch, and then noticed things she "hadn't seen for years". She went from complaining about "being forced to have unnecessary surgery" to enjoying rediscovering her world.
