Television is the worst possible medium for news and opinion.

It bypasses too many of our critical thinking skills. It appeals directly to our lizard brains.

When I'm reading something I don't quite understand I can slow down. I can back up and read it again. Hell, reading, I can pause and decode serious math equations.

Watching television news and opinion I've noticed most people are not likely to hit the "pause" button.

My wife and I are both autistic spectrum creatures. We watch ordinary television with the captions turned on and we frequently pause/backspace ten, twenty, thirty seconds or more. This behavior would probably annoy the hell out of anyone watching television with us. (Our children learned to live with it.)

My wife has always been intolerant of television news. I quit television news and opinion in the chaos following 9-11-2001.

My dad used to come home from his good union job, grab a beer from the fridge, sit down in his easy chair and watch the local CBS news followed by Walter Cronkite.

He's still a television news junkie and I'm still in awe of his ability to apply his critical thinking skills to it.
