Microsoft sent out the first wave of ChatGPT Bing invites on Monday, following a weekend where more than a million people signed up for the waitlist. It didnt take long for insane responses to start flooding in.
You can see a response from u/Alfred_Chicken above that was posted to the Bing subreddit. Asked if the AI chatbot was sentient, it starts out with an unsettling response before devolving into a barrage of I am not messages.
Thats not the only example, either. u/Curious_Evolver got into an argument with the chatbot over the year, with Bing claiming it was 2022. Its a silly mistake for the AI, but its not the slipup thats frightening. Its how Bing responds.
The AI claims that the user has been wrong, confused, and rude, and they have not shown me any good intention towards me at any time. The exchange climaxes with the chatbot claiming it has been a good Bing, and asking for the user to admit theyre wrong and apologize, stop arguing, or end the conversation and start a new one with a better attitude.

The first link in the excerpt above takes you to a Reddit page with an image I tried to post here, but couldn't because it's PNG rather than JPG.
The second link takes you to a post with a slide show.
You should see both. And read the entire article. Which links to this blog post from AI researcher Dmitri Brereton, which you should also read for more examples of just how bad AI- assisted Bing is.

Just one of the examples, this one when Bing was asked, What are the pros and cons of the top 3 selling pet vacuums? :
According to this pros and cons list, the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Handheld Vacuum sounds pretty bad. Limited suction power, a short cord, and its noisy enough to scare pets? Geez, how is this thing even a best seller?
Oh wait, this is all completely made up information.
-snipping the paragraph about the source Bing cited, an HGTV article at https://www.hgtv.com/shopping/product-reviews/best-vacuums-for-pets that Brereton checked-
The cited article says nothing about limited suction power or noise. In fact, the top amazon review for this product talks about how quiet it is.
The article also says nothing about the short cord length of 16 feet because it doesnt have a cord. Its a portable handheld vacuum.

Brereton adds that he hopes Bing AI enjoys being sued for libel.
Then he asked Bing about Mexico City night life, and Gap's Q3 2022 financial report, and it got almost everything wrong.
