16. Those other controversial comedians had/have a real committed fan base.

The fan base will follow them on tours, so they still have a draw to make money for media networks with niche projects.

Roseanne's original TV audience was made up of lots of liberals. She gained a huge following of fans because of the show. They enjoyed the show's wit and humor and pulled for the flawed Connors. When Rosanne reverted to being an abrasive anti-liberal comic, she lost most of the TV audience as a fan base. Instead of cooling the hatred, she doubled down. Unfortunately, conservatives don't really care for her current "humor" either. If there was money to be made financing her, someone would be doing it.
