"MOOOOM! MOM!" [View all]
By now, we all know the what and where of that awful cry.
A follow-on story is that of RowVaughn Wells, Tyre Nichols' mother. As he was being beaten to death mere yards from her house but unbeknownst to her, she felt a burning in her chest.
I don't think that was a coincidence. To consider the strength of a mother's connection to her child not woo. It is real.
RowVaughn did a TV interview I saw in which so poignantly articulated her pain, her loss, and most of all her connection to her son.
My 21st birthday was also the day I first boarded my Navy ship, right out of Great Lakes and A School in Newport. As I lay in my bunk I heard as real as can be my mother's voice, waking me up for school. The dream set me bolt upright. I looked at my watch. It was exactly midnight. Next day I called home. Mom on the phone and my Dad on the extension.
She'd had the same dream, at the same time.
There were several such incidents over the years with me and my brother. Not alas about bad things. Just connections.
I wish RowVaughn peace and a continued connection to Tyre. No parent should bury a child for any reason. To do so for THIS reason is so far beyond tragic, the right word escapes me,
