we're very compassionate ppl here, for the most part. the alderman here is just worthless, tho, and cant get city depts to work together to figure it out.
me- i'd give them the park.
they closed the field house in the plague and w/o staff, and w folks afraid to go to shelters....
about 50 tents now. muni elections in feb, so there will be some will to do something b4 winter.
the challenger has some thoughts about tiny homes, and spots in the ward.
there's an agency that checks in 3 times a week, but... i dont see why they cant let them use the field house w a staffer, maybe from the agency, or public health. they could shower, and even cook. decent kitchen.
and they could set up a pick up spot for day laborers. so many other things.

u of chgo hosp did a pilot project a while back to house some of their 'frequent flyers'. it worked amazingly well. when they rly dig in the found out that a lot of er visits were just lonely people who knew they could find a kind person at the hosp. it's obv easier and cheaper to get that hooked up elsewhere. gave them good wrap around services and most did well.
