In reply to the discussion: Nancy Pelosi explains things to Andrea Mitchell [View all]ShazzieB
(21,811 posts)This is often done to give the interviewee a chance to address those questions directly in their own words. I see instances of this all the time, where Rachel or Lawrence or whoever will ask a question they likely know the answer to as a way of setting things up for a guest expert to pontificate on the area of their expertise. When done properly, it can be very effective and so subtle one barely notices them doing it.
This was NOT an instance of that! Mitchell asked that question out of massive ignorance, and she then seemed to have a hard time understanding what Nancy was trying to tell her. It was clear from Nancy's reaction that she was taken aback by both the question and Mitchell's difficulty understanding why the Democrats in the Senate can't just pass whatever they want with that razor thin margin.
I agree that Mitchell needs to retire.
