(5,125 posts)34. When I was working on a project in
grad school, some of the documents reviewed and used were once upon a time classified and then subsequently declassified.
There were notations on them that indicated when the document was declassified and by whom (and depending upon the level of classification, this might be notated several times).
I came across a few documents that were marked as classified but were not showing as declassified. The archivist I was working with told me to stop, let them know and they would then get it reviewed and declassified.
I then had direct evidence that the wheels of government (even for documents from WWI) turn really really slowly. The PhD I was working with grumbled pretty steadily until they were finally declassified about a year later.
