He was heavily involved with helping to modernize the Reich's industrial processes, so much so that he received a citation from Hitler himself. Ford and other American car makers had factories in Germany that helped to produce vehicles for the German military; after the war they sued the US government for reparations for the damages caused by allied bombers. American bankers (including Walker/Bush) were part of the financial web that funded the Reich. It's no stretch to say that American interests were hedging their bets on both sides of the conflict. Ford felt safe enough to flaunt his views and force them on his employees. It's galling that our "made in America" labels are often affixed to products from companies that never had to answer for being enmeshed in Hitler's plans, says much about where human beings rate in our hierarchy of international relationships.
