in a way that they can retain his base.
If they do it, his base won't support the GOP and they will lose their ability to attain or retain power.

Trump probably keeps the GOP in line by threatening to start another party - which would wipe the GOP out.

Some of his supporters will still support Trump if he leaves the country. But a bunch won't. How the bunch that won't continue to support breaks in terms of GOP/Dem support will depend on who they see as to blame for his departure.

I think Trump is hurting the GOP some in the polls for the midterms.
If letting Trump hang around for another 60 days until after the midterms is best for the Dems chances in the midterms, I'll all for that.

I continue to doubt that they'll ever get Trump in jail. He'll run.
