Is this purely political? Ted's hoping to capitalize on MAGA outrage for votes.

Or

Is this personal? Ted has some secret that is so heinous he must fight in support of Trump in outrageous ways to keep it hidden. Whether that's the fact he's involved in Trump's crimes or if Trump has some type of kompromat over him, it doesn't matter.

At some point, Trump is going to become so toxic that these leeches will be forced to rectify the stances they are taking now with civilized society.
