I was wondering if he may have given Putin some intel on Ukraine to help with his invasion. TFG's first "encounter" with Zelensky led to the first impeachment so he may have harbored some hostility and relished a chance at revenge.

Of course it didn't have to be a deliberate trap. It could just be that intel intercepted some revealing communications and they tipped off the DOJ. Or something else entirely.
