-- after the precious electoral STABILITY they once had is lost -- their people either restore their stability or they wobble for sometimes decades as weakened electorates swing in fear from one promise to another. Extremists dismissed in stable, rational times are empowered by desperation, and in worst cases governments may morph from far-right to far-left and back through decades of instability and serial revolutions.

But sometimes people learn from their mistakes and stabilize their democracies to what they had and want back. And that's probably what we will do here. Unlike most other nations, liberal democracy is all our people have ever known and it's what we expect to have. And though we've lost stability, we still do have a liberal democracy.

In any case, no matter what happens in this NC case, the fight will go on. For as long as it takes for us and our children to restore what we had but didn't appreciate and realize we could lose. Five years, or 50.

Good news is, people finally waking up to what's been happening for 30 years is a genuine advance, just not enough yet and of course not the kind we expected to be making. Like planning to start an NGO to fight climate change and instead learning what it's like to fight for life against a virulent grade 3 cancer.
