Trump said (with some atypical veracity) that he could shoot someone down in cold blood on Fifth Avenue in broad daylight and not lose a vote.
Elsewhere in America, shooters can go kill people every few days somewhere in the USA, and the Republicans that put the guns in their hands will not lose a vote.
