Is it because we're a large country that we seem to have excessive depravity?

Nah, twas ever thus. It's just easier to hear about it now.

We have millions of kids in foster care because they have abusive parents.

It's actually less than half a million on any given day, and increasingly, kids are put in foster care because their parents are incarcerated and there's nowhere else to put them, or things like unemployment, leaving kids with an older sibling to work, or other small infraction is treated as a reason to take the kids out of their home.

A population that loves guns so much that thousands of deaths are acceptable so they can carry their guns around to threaten people—and some of them to murder people.

A population where many believe LGBTQ have no right to live and should be executed.

A population that believes that women have no rights to their own bodies and must be controlled by ignorant politicians.

These are all minority opinions in the population.
