It's how the Global Elite works - support extremely authoritarian religious leaders in progressive parishes to try to keep their flocks in line.

The bishop here closed a nearby local parish in the South Hills and merged it into another parish...of coarse the parish eliminated was extremely liberal, cared about working people and their problems, and had a liberal priest assigned to it - and the new on is Handmaiden Conservative Crazy that only cares about the unborn. (The bishop replaced the liberal priest with an extremely old school conservative authoritarian right before they announced the closing. My mom-in-law had attended that church for her whole life - she is 85 - but she left it when they replaced the liberal priest with the conservative asshat. Sad.)

SF and Pittsburgh are full of sane progressive working people who fight for their rights. Must be something in the air.
