Unless he's getting a bone marrow transplant. But if that's the case, we won't see anything of him until the stem cells engraft, and that takes weeks.

"Blood cancer" does explain the steroid "moon face" that he seems to have, though. High-dose corticosteroids is a treatment for some forms of leukemia.
