Registered Republicans in Florida would back Governor Ron DeSantis over Donald Trump if the pair were up against each other for the GOP's 2024 presidential candidacy, a poll has found.
According to the survey by the University of North Florida Public Opinion Research Lab, DeSantis was the top pick in a hypothetical 2024 presidential primary for GOP voters in the Sunshine State at 44 percentage points, with the former president in second place with 41 points.
The poll found two percent of respondents wanted someone other than Trump or DeSantis, with seven percent saying they didn't know and six percent refusing to give an answer.
"With a lot of speculation about a possible presidential bid from DeSantis, we thought this would be an interesting hypothetical," said Michael Binder, PORL faculty director and professor of political science.
