Washington Post: Chris Crouch was anti-vaccine. Now his pregnant wife had covid... [View all]

WP story about an anti-vaxxer whose pregnant wife got Covid, spent months in the hospital, had her baby delivered while she was out of it, and all survived.

Very touching. After all, how can you not be sympathetic to a dying pregnant woman who, along with her newborn, survive against all odds?

the anti-vaxxer is a cop whose attitude was, god gave him an immune system, and that's all he needs. His body, his choice. (Hmm, where have we heard that before?) At one point he questions whether he caused all this distress.

Some thoughts.

Yes, he did cause all this distress. His body, his wife's body, their choices. But when confronted with reality, what's he do? Go home and pray that God sorts things out for him? Gosh, no. He goes to the hospital and hopes that doctors can save his wife and unborn child, using the best medicine and technology available. Immune system? His body, his choice? Fuck no. Bring on the experts. (Oh, so now he loves doctors and their medicine.)

I just learned a new texting acronym: AITA. So, AITA here? If I cared at all about these people, I'd be pissed, and horrified, and angry. But all I can think about is the hypocrisy and the stories they will tell about this miraculous survival. Reminds me of the joke about Breaking Bad. If we had universal health care, Walter White would have gotten the treatment he needed, and he'd still be a science teacher. Here, so much anguish could have been avoided if this guy and his wife got a simple vaccination. A quick stop into the CVS. No drama. But, no. Your body, your choice, and you put everything at risk, then turning the science to make it all better.
