One of the reasons German politics took the shape that it did in the 1920s and early 30s was that the extreme parties on the left (communist parties aligned with the Soviets) and on the right (the Nazis and other groups who were later either absorbed or purged by the Nazis) had memberships full of veterans of WW1, experienced in hard-fighting trench warfare. They had no fears about mixing it up, especially against anyone who didn't know how to fight effectively, like civilians.

Here and now, there's only one side actively cultivating that sort of attitude.
