(11,767 posts)You win elections by getting more people to vote for you than your opponent. Traditionally it has been a race to convince more voters to cast their ballot for you and your party.
Republicans really stopped doing that after Reagan's term. Get a Republican politician drunk enough and they will admit that their policies do not work for the vast majority of American people. They tend to opt for a strategy of riling up their smaller but more excitable base and then they engage in a bunch of dirty tricks to try to suppress Democratic votes in order to win. This is what it seems, DeSantis is working on. He is deliberately and dishonestly trying to create an acrimonious situation with the Biden Administration so that he can prove to the Conservative base that he is "fighting for them".
It really doesn't matter that what he is saying is blatantly dishonest and easily debunked. The audience he is trying to reach and secure does not care one whit about honesty. He is relying on this base of support and the schemes that Republicans have been carrying out in the states, to suppress votes and/or simply reject the will of the people and switch out the electors.
DeSantis is a stupid man, but he is not unintelligent. This is a deliberate strategy to appeal to the ignorant and stupid base of voters who put Trump in the White House.
