Lack of urgency in finding ways to speak with unions members following Reagan's election in 1980. The party never really tried to win them back, and today many union members view the Republican Party as the party of working people. The same party that embraced the Arthur Laffer Curve (supply side economics (a k.a, Reaganomics)) that treats labor as a commodity: something that can be bought, sold and traded away.

Many union members have embraced a political party that advocates the exporting or offshoring of their jobs to the lowest cost labor markets.
