(21,771 posts)"Manchin told the assembled donors that he needed help flipping a handful of Republicans from no to yes on the January 6 commission in order to strip the far left of their best argument against the filibuster. The filibuster is a critical priority for the donors on the call, as it bottles up progressive legislation that would hit their bottom lines."
He was asking for help flipping Republicans, not Democrats, to vote "yes" on the Jan. 6 commission, thereby getting the Dems off his back about abolishing the filibuster? Well, we all know how well THAT went.
Seems kind of disingenuous of Manchin to think those donors would help him with that, or with getting Repukes to vote for anything they obviously see as a threat to themselves. Is he really that naive?
I don't know what to think at this point. I always assumed there was a method to his madness, but now I'm questioning whether he really understands who he's dealing with (both in terms of these donors and his GQP Senate "colleagues."
