A Jan. 6th Commission would rescue the G.O.P. from Trump. [View all]

Most of the G.O.P. fear Trump, dread his re-emergence in rallies, and are paralyzed when thinking of his possible future run for office.

Everything we have seen suggests that he was complicit in the Jan. 6th resurrection. He either communicated with the insurrectionists (through Roger Stone?), was instrumental in the planning, and/or held back other law enforcement/military efforts to reinforce Capitol Police.

Republican senators realize this as well, and they know a bipartisan commission would uncover his role and make him unelectable in the future. (They may even refer him for criminal prosecution.)

So here is their chance to wake up from this fever-dream and cast off the Trump shackles.

All they have to do is vote for the commission. The G.O.P. could save itself today.
