(997 posts)It's a house that's been falling apart for decades. How many people believe Bush won the 2000 election? How many people though President Obama was a Muslim from Kenya? How many people think Trump won the 2016 election? Couple that with Citizen United and the spread of all sorts of right wing disinformation and you have the American democracy at its worst shape in generations. I mean people stormed the Capitol in January and the reaction to it from the right wasn't horror and a call for introspection but rather lament that they didn't go further.
It going to take decades to rebuild. I see people foolishly deluding themselves in thinking that Biden winning means that we avoided disaster and everything is good again. It is just putting a fresh coat of paint on a house that is falling down. It might mask it but it does nothing to address the rot underneath.
