The detective found links to websites. (maybe in his favorites?) not the downloads themselves. Looking at the websites he could not factually determine than any of them had obviously illegal content. (Not to mention whether the Ipad user accessed any illegal content while visiting the sites) There simply isn't a crime here.

If someone posts child porn onto Facebook (And yes this happens and yes this has been documented) it hardly means anyone with a link to Facebook on their device is guilty of possessing child porn.

Unless I am really reading this wrong, this seems like a strange story of an old man occasional looks at porn of an undetermined nature.
