The core crime of many people is willful ignorance [View all]

Ignorance is not a crime of its self but its also not a defense when commiting a crime. If you choose to ignore reality that is your choice but the rest of the world doesn't have to accept that. I certainly think all the seditionists need to be punished; they made the choice to travel there and break the law. But I think all those who lied and encouraged them are even more guilty and should face severe prosecution. Maybe some of those who were unarmed an nonviolent should be treated a bit easier. I think of alcohics or drug addicts. Long term probation and required "treatment" i.e. education, if acknowledged and accepted by them might reduce the penalty, but just like drug dealers facing distribution charges, their leaders should face severe penalties.
